Rev. Cheryl Taylor, Pastor
Cheryl was called to serve as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Rockwall in 2009. In her previous lives she was a newspaper reporter, a public relations professional, and a freelance writer – at least until God called her to serve the church as a Christian Educator. While working as an educator, she felt God’s continued nudging, which led her to attend Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University, where she earned her Master of Divinity degree.
For Cheryl, God is all about the love – the love poured out on us in grace, and the love that we, in response, can pour out on others in compassion and mercy. She sees her role as being a cheerleader for the church, encouraging individual and corporate efforts to do justice, practice loving-kindness and walk humbly alongside Christ.
Cheryl has been married to her husband, Dallas sportswriter and radio commentator David Moore, since shortly after they both graduated from the University of North Texas. They are the proud parents of a daughter, Kelsey, who is a licensed clinical social worker with the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center. Cheryl and David’s brindled Plott Hound, Jack, is a regular visitor to the church.
She is an avid walker (ask her about the Camino de Santiago!), traveler and book lover (come join her at a meeting of the FPC Book Club). Cheryl also enjoys pop culture and can’t help but see the ways current TV shows, music and movies inform our faith.
